Welcome to Merrilands Primary School.
The community school in the heart of popular Merrilands suburb, New Plymouth.
Opening in 1960 our school is one of the most recent to be established in New Plymouth.
Merrilands is a Decile 7 contributing primary school for Year 0 to Year 6 students. We are a smaller city school with a roll of approximately 180 students. This size gives us an advantage as we can truly be described as a “community school.”
We are proud of our school culture and tone. Merrilands School has excellent facilities, plentiful space, pupil numbers at each age to ensure social interaction and the ability to provide the necessary extra help and specialist staff to ensure student success.
Few schools our size would have the range of facilities we enjoy. There are two modern classroom blocks which, beside teaching classrooms, include a very welcoming administration area, wonderful library, Audio Visual Room, Gifted and Talented Room, Art Room, Technology Room and a large hall which is used by various community groups.
On site we have a Dental Clinic and we are also the host school for Taranaki’s Deaf Education advisers. One unique feature at Merrilands School is Te Whare Manaakitia which is our unit for severely disabled students.
The playground features an excellent adventure playground, as well as a fitness circuit, spacious playing fields, court areas and a solar heated swimming pool.
